New Mexico Civil Legal Aid
Kathleen "Kathy" Love is a wife and mother who enjoys spending time with her husband and son. As an attorney in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a partner at the McGinn, Carpenter, Montoya & Love law firm, Kathy Love specializes in representing ordinary people against large corporations. In addition to her career as an attorney, Ms. Love supports civil legal aid efforts and is a member of Equal Access to Justice.
Founded in 1988, Equal Access to Justice is a nonprofit organization that provides civil legal aid services in New Mexico. Civil legal aid is assistance in the form of legal services to individuals with low incomes who normally could not afford an attorney. The aid is not for criminal cases but for civil legal services in areas such as housing, employment, and public services.
Equal Access to Justice provides support through donations that are dispersed to one of four civil-aid providers: DNA People’s Legal Services, Law Access New Mexico, New Mexico Legal Aid, and the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty. Through donations and pro bono efforts, these providers work to cover the 80 percent of legal needs that go unmet of people with low incomes. For more information on civil legal aid, visit eaj-nm.org.
