New Mexico Wilderness Alliance Works to Protect Gila Wilderness

New Mexico attorney Kathy Love is a partner at McGinn, Carpenter, Montoya, and Love, a law firm dedicated to protecting families and communities. In addition to her work as an attorney, Kathy Love also serves her community in many ways, including as a founding board member of the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance.

Since 1997, the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance has been working to protect and preserve New Mexico’s wilderness spaces. The organization has spearheaded many wilderness protection campaigns, with current efforts including the Organ Mountains, the Pecos Wilderness, and the Gila Wilderness. The Gila Wilderness is the largest wilderness area in New Mexico, and was where the wilderness protection movement in the state began.

The current campaign is focused on achieving comprehensive wilderness restoration and protection. Currently, the Gila River is under threat of being diverted, altering the course of the state’s first wilderness river and last remaining free-flowing one. The alli…
